Tom Tancredo: Nuke Mecca

In response to a senseless question about the idiotic assumption al-Qaeda has fantastical suitcase nukes (no such beast exists) and hired evil Chechens to smuggle them across our porous border, House Representative from Colorado, Tom Tancredo, says the United States should nuke Mecca and Medina, the holiest of holy Muslim cities. Since no suitcase nukes will be found—short of fake ones discovered to add fire to the blazing propaganda pyre—Mecca will not be nuked, thankfully. But Tancredo’s knee-jerk comment on AM 540 WFLA reveals something disturbing, although not particularly surprising: more than a few Congress critters are stark raving warmongers who don’t think twice about the fact a half million or so people live in Mecca, most having absolutely nothing to do with al-Qaeda. I’m not sure Tancredo said Mecca should be bombed during the hajj (pilgrimage) when an estimated 1,000,000 people trek to the birthplace of Muhammad, but considering his mindset this is probably not out of the question since for neocons and their demented fellow travelers in Congress a dead Muslim is a good Muslim. Tancredo also does not bother to explain how nuking Mecca would be an appropriate response to al-Qaeda, a group supposedly at odds with the Saudi government. No doubt Tancredo believes all Muslims are identical and they want to nuke America and convert the remainder to Islam. In fact, most Muslims simply want the United States to butt out of their business.
