- by Scott Ritter - Iraq has come to this: a human and social disaster of enormous scale, where unified central governmental authority is not only non-existent, but unachievable under current conditions. - Nearly three years after the US-led invasion-turned-occupation of Iraq, more Iraqis are falling prey to grinding poverty and countless others are terrified in the insecurity-marred country.
- When troops are cut, we'll still be bombing the hell out of the place - A new audit of American financial practices in Iraq has uncovered irregularities including millions of reconstruction dollars stuffed casually into footlockers and filing cabinets, an American soldier in the Philippines who gambled away cash belonging to Iraq, and three Iraqis who plunged to their deaths in a rebuilt hospital elevator that had been improperly certified as safe.
- The sanitised images of war broadcast on television are a "lethal weapon" masking atrocities which demonstrate that conflict can "never be justified," an Independent debate was told last night. - The officer was fined $6,000 in salary and was largely restricted to his barracks and workplace for 60 days.

- As various news reports come out about Shiite death squads operating within Iraqi police forces — which are being trained by U.S. soldiers — one can’t help but wonder if it’s a throwback to American policies in Latin America in the 1980s. - Where was the ICRC when Fallujah was leveled to the ground… half millions of its inhabitants have become refugees in their own homeland. Fallujah, the martyr city, where the US bloodthirsty invaders used combat gasses, napalm...and weapons of mass destruction…Where is the ICRC while the US democratic killers still bomb hospitals, kill patients and doctors all together and shoot on ambulances.

- The bad news is that they aren't finished. Most of the folks who run this country, no matter which major party they claim to belong to, think that they can win their various wars and start new ones, continue to privatize the government for the benefit of their friends (Social Security is next, mark my words), spy on and jail people at will, and then tell us that they're doing it for our own good. - Even the most accurately-delivered 500 pounder cannot destroy a building without damaging adjacent houses and killing people therein. Anyone who imagines or declares that this is possible is a liar or a moron or both.
- Why are people so shocked about the Propaganda material used by the US in Iraq. The declassified documents show that the US has been using propaganda material in the Middle East since the 1950s. In fact the last colonial masters of Iraq the British used the same tactics to generate favourable public opinion regarding the British Occupation of Iraq.

It also sent teams into Iraq after the invasion began, which, after it became apparent that there were no abundant WMDs, examined the possibility of planting such weapons in order to help the resident avoid embarrassment. - American troops in Baghdad yesterday blasted their way into the home of an Iraqi journalist working for the Guardian and Channel 4, firing bullets into the bedroom where he was sleeping with his wife and children.
- It appears as though the Cheney administration will soon “redeploy” thousands of US troops out of Iraq. While several permanent US military bases are under construction there as I type this, the Capital Hill Cabal, desperate to paint the Iraq disaster in a glorious hue, are working their pundits and spokespeople overtime to convince the ill-informed they have not failed dismally in every aspect of their illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq.
